This job opportunity is with a growing services company that is searching for Director of Business Development for Critical Fuel Services in the Mid-Atlantic / NoVA region. They provide reliability and uptime of mission-critical facilities for many of the world’s largest organizations and government facilities including Enterprise Data Centers, Colocation Providers and Hyperscale Companies. 

Business Development Director – Critical Facilities Services – Ashburn, VA

This BD leader will play a critical role in driving growth and expanding market share. This position is based in Northern VA and will be responsible for identifying, developing, and securing new business opportunities within the fuel sector. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in sales, strategic planning, and relationship management, couples with a deep understanding of the fuel industry and market dynamics.  The ideal candidate will possess contacts and an established Rolodex of contacts in the Mission Critical Data Center / Critical Facilities Marketplace in commercial / colocation / government / hyperscale / enterprise sectors.

Responsibilities:

  • Conducting market research on potential customers, industry segments and trends in the marketplace
  • Create a business strategy to pursue new business and to understand competition in this space to best understand how to position a proper go to market strategy and to identify new business lines
  • Call on established clients and prospecting for new accounts among high-potential Mission Critical Data Center end-users
  • Preparing proposals, presentations,  sales reports, forecasts, trends and briefings
  • Track and monitor sales performance, KPI’s, etc 
  • Create customized solutions for customer’s needs
  • Lead any negotiations for contracts
  • Establish positive relationships with existing business partners, key stakeholders, engineering firms, etc 
  • Act as the primary contact for key accounts
  • Attend and represent company at conferences, trade shows, industry events to promote the brand, meet key decision makers, and to generate leads

Qualifications:

  • Business Development Experience / Polished Sales Professional, selling to the Fortune 500 market
  • A proven track record of consultative service sales skills is a must
  • A proven track record selling in the generator, fuel or energy industry a huge plus
  • BA/ BS degree a plus, MBA a huge plus
  • Business Contacts in the desired Region – Data Center Facilities Leadership, Director of Facilities, Facilities Managers, etc 
  • Contacts with Engineering Firms, General Contractors, Data Center Providers, Construction Companies, etc.
  • Minimum of 3-5 yrs of team leadership in field services supporting Electrical, Fuel, or Energy
  • Experience with Fuel equipment within a data center critical facility environment a plus
  • Must be a team player and be able to build long-term partner relationships with internal and external individuals who are part of the business development process
  • Strong organizational, analytical and planning skills with the ability to prioritize
  • Must be able to demonstrate a sustained track record of business development accomplishments as related to new business opportunities
  • Self Starter / Highly Motivated and Results Driven 
  • Previous experience in the Military / Military veterans in all branches that have experience with Electrical / Mechanical is a huge plus (Navy nukes- EMN, ETN, MMNs, SeaBees, Army – Power Generation, Air Force – Power Production, Generator Techs, Maritime, Coast Guard, etc.)
  • Belong to local professional organizations (AFCOM, ASHRAE, 7×24 Exchange, DatacenterDynamics, Uptime, DICE / Bisnow etc.)
  • Ability to see big picture and ability to identify and pursue growth opportunities
  • Requires excellent verbal, written communication skills, negotiation & customer relations skills
  • Computer Savvy – MS Office, Teams, and CRM SW
  • Must be able to provide high level of quality customer service
