A career in specialized MEP Engineering in the critical facilities / data center market can be highly lucrative. These engineers are extremely sought after as the data center market continues to expand.

MEP ENGINEERING DESIGN at a glance

The demand for data center MEP engineers is high and the supply is low. As a result, many companies find it challenging to staff these specialized positions. Thus, many jobs are available for those who know how to design the complex electrical systems, cooling systems, controls systems, or fire systems that data center facilities can’t do without.

The MEP Engineering Design field is geared towards Degreed MEP Engineers that design the Critical Infrastructure within a data center (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Fire Protection, Controls, and Cabling).  The vast majority of individuals in the discipline have their Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering. However, it is also highly beneficial for these candidates to have the necessary engineering licenses. These licenses include the EIT (Engineer in Training) and PE (Professional Engineer). Typically, you must pass the FE (Fundamentals of Engineer) exam to be become an EIT which is the first towards becoming a PE. The PE license is an extremely valuable asset to any engineering company since it allows that individual to stamp drawings.
